Cortni Emanuel is a dedicated Master’s level graduate student intern in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Houston Christian University. With a background in coaching softball and playing at the University of Georgia, Cortni uniquely blends her sports experience with her passion for counseling. Having previously interned at St. Hope Foundation in Sugar Land, where she worked with underserved populations, Cortni has developed a profound commitment to positively impacting the lives of children, adolescents, and families. She believes in the resilience of individuals and is dedicated to helping them discover their internal strength for healing. Cortni provides a safe environment that encourages clients to explore the depths of their identities. Her approach to therapy includes attachment, cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (CBT/MBCT), and family systems theories. Cortni is also trained in using EMDR as an evidence-based treatment for trauma. She uses art, creativity, and movement as tools for self-exploration, regulation, and expression.
Cortni holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology and a Master’s of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Administration from the University of Georgia. She will complete her Master’s of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Houston Christian University in Summer 2024. Cortni is under the clinical supervision of Lindsay Asawa Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
